We imagine that you will feel more at ease with your holiday, or
before booking your holiday once you know what to expect from
the weather!
With exception of the unpredictability of today world weather
patterns… here is some local knowledge on our Mombasa seas,
weather and surrounds…….
The Coral reef runs along the entire Kenyan coast, and acts as
protective barrier. We are subjected to significant tidal
changes depending on if it is a spring or neap tide, so its best
to check ahead if you are planning a catamaran ride or beach
walk etc.. we have the full details available of the tides &
height etc.. posted at our centres everyday…call ahead!
Windsurfing and
kiteboarding
beginners lessons are set according to the tide, we try to
choose a lower tide so that conditions are more likely to be
calmer for the initial lessons making it easier for you to
learn.
Mombasa has trade winds blowing consistently on cross shore
winds at
varying strengths through the year, but we have two main
seasons.
The KUSI (South East Monsoon) howls in from late April till late
October during and after the “long rains” season of May / June.
Air temperatures are from a cool 25 C to 30C. The winds and seas
can often become quite strong and rough during squalls, so some
watersports may be postponed from hour to hour with your safety
in mind, but equally we get magical days of blue skies, lots of
wind, and full blue seas.
The KASKAZI (North East Monsoon) swings over during November
till April. November’s “short rains” often cause little wind and
very hot muggy temperatures, but in mid/late December the winds
pick up, lessen the humidity, and temperatures are at their best
from 30 C to 35 C. The Ocean is at its most beautiful during
this season.
Learning to windsurf can be done all year round, for very
advanced windsurfing, your best months are June, July, August,
and January.
Kitesurfing can be done all year round!! The wind speeds vary
from a year round with a minimum consistent average of 10 knots, going to 20
- 25 knots, and gusting to 30 according to the varying seasons
and the weather that is brought in during that time. The
temperature and wind speeds available at the centre twice a day,
everyday!
