Prosurf Extreme have been supporters of two wonderful Charities in Kenya for over 4 years, Medical & Educational Aid to Kenya and Assist a Child to School.
Medical and Educational Aid to Kenya (MEAK)
M.E.A.K. was founded 14 years ago by a British couple, Mike and Dee Belliere, after they fell in love with Kenya and her people. They are registered in UK and Kenya and recently were commended by the House of Lords for their transparency. Their mission is to establish medical and educational based programs across Kenya. They bring renowned international medical teams from London to lend their time and expertise, without charge, providing life saving heart and eye operations and share knowledge and training with local staff.
MEAK also donates large quantities of medical equipment and consumables to clinics and hospitals in Kenya. We bring attention to the work they are doing each year by holding our Charity Kitesurf Event and they have become good friends of our Kitesurf family. As kitesurfing is such a spectator sport we have a great turnout each year, attracting world class PKRA & BKSA kiteboarders to Nyali for a week of fun and fundraising in support of MEAK.
In 2010, in addition to MEAK, we are also going to support another small Charity based in Mombasa in support of their Gender-based Violence Crisis Support Centre.
Assist a Child to School (ACTS)
A.C.T.S. is a registered charity that has been operating in the schools of a slum area named Kongowea in the suburbs of Mombasa for over 13 years supporting the provision of education for the needy. ACTS pledges it’s support in assisting children whose families are unable to provide them with education due to lack of funds, by finding sponsors to fund the school fees and donors to help raise money for equipment and facilities. Each year we support ACTS as a sponsor of the Annual ACTS Duathlon - a well attended local get together of the community for a running and cycling race around the Bamburi North Quarry Nature Park. We have been supporting them for over 4 years and we enter a Prosurf team too! We'll try not to come first this year!
We also carry out weekly beach clean ups and are a supporter of the Annual Beach Clean Up to remove debris and plastic bags that come in from the open ocean : - (
